The motivation and journey behind the creation of autotradelab.

The Problem: Institutional Constraints

From decades in finance and trading, Jan knew that institutional investors increasingly face two major problems (among others):

• Diversification
• Market impact

As institutions manage tens of billions, diversifying becomes harder. Even worse, when they enter or exit positions, position sizes are so large their sheer size moves the market against themselves.

There had to be a better way.

AI as a Solution

Ever since discovering AI back in high school, Vinzenz has been fascinated by it. Tinkering at home, learning as much as he can about AI, one thing became clear:

Almost any problem can be solved with AI.

The next step was obvious: solve these quite solvable problems for institutional investors using AI.

The Name: Why autotradelab?

We knew what we wanted to build:

• Automated trading
• With a scientific approach
• AI-native
• Entirely data-driven
• No emotional bias (except for our client's success)

What captures that? A laboratory - not for petri dishes and flasks, but for cooking up a zoo of profitable trading strategies 👨‍🔬.

That's how the name came about: automated trad[e]ing laboratories.

Experience Meets Innovation

Two different backgrounds. One shared mission. Old gun and young hand combine their experiences perfectly to form autotradelab.

The Build: From Bureaucracy to Backtests

Incorporation was a hurdle (German bureaucracy...) we have taken. We built our own automated trading platform from scratch - capable of:

• Optimizing
• Executing
• Monitoring

...fully automated strategies.

Seeing the first backtest complete was a moment of pride. Seeing the first profitable result?

That’s when we knew: this will work.

From parameter tuning to spinning up live dashboards - every milestone reinforced our belief. We're growing, both as a team and individually.

What's Next: Scaling Up

And this is just the beginning.
